Neuromodulator care from a trained dentist

Neuromodulator treatment may be discussed for cosmetic facial concerns and, where appropriate, for clenching, grinding, bruxism, or tension-related symptoms. As a dentist with expanded training in neuromodulators, Dr. Pellosie evaluates the facial muscles and TMJ in detail and reviews whether treatment is appropriate for you.

How neuromodulators work

Neuromodulators such as Botox® are purified proteins that temporarily reduce small muscle contractions. By relaxing underlying muscle activity, the skin above can appear smoother. Individual results vary and are not guaranteed.

Possible therapeutic discussion

Where clinically appropriate, neuromodulator treatment may be discussed as a possible support for symptoms associated with bruxism (clenching and grinding) or certain tension-related concerns. This is not a cure, and outcomes vary by patient. A full clinical evaluation is required to determine whether treatment is appropriate for you.

Why a dentist for facial injections

Dentistry is built around the anatomy of the head and neck: the muscles that move the jaw, the joints that hinge it, and the tissues that frame your smile. That is the same anatomy neuromodulator treatment works within.

Because Dr. Pellosie also sees your bite, wear patterns, and jaw joints, the conversation is not limited to lines on the skin. If your symptoms point to clenching or grinding, that gets evaluated as part of the same visit.

What your first visit involves

The first appointment is an assessment. We review your medical history and medications, look at how the facial muscles move at rest and in expression, examine the jaw joints and the wear on your teeth, and talk through what you hope to change.

If treatment is appropriate, we explain the plan, the areas involved, what to expect afterwards, and the fee before anything is scheduled. If it is not appropriate, we say so and discuss alternatives.

  • Medical history, medication, and allergy review
  • Assessment of facial muscle movement and symmetry
  • Jaw joint, bite, and tooth wear examination
  • A clear explanation of whether treatment is appropriate
  • Written fees before scheduling

Afterwards

Most people return to their normal day right away. We give written aftercare guidance at the appointment, including what to avoid for the first several hours.

Effects appear gradually rather than immediately, so a follow-up is scheduled to review your individual response and note it for future visits.

FAQ

Common questions

Dentists work with the muscles of the face and jaw every day. Dr. Pellosie has expanded training in neuromodulator injections and evaluates the facial muscles, bite, and jaw joints together rather than treating the face in isolation.

Cosmetic treatment typically involves the forehead, the lines between the brows, and the lines beside the eyes. Around the smile, the muscles of the upper lip and chin are sometimes discussed. Your consultation covers what is appropriate for you.

Where clinically appropriate, neuromodulator treatment may be discussed as possible support for symptoms associated with bruxism or certain tension-related concerns. It is not a cure, outcomes vary, and a full clinical evaluation is required first.

The injections themselves usually take only a few minutes. Plan for a longer first visit, since the consultation, medical history review, and muscle assessment come first.

Neuromodulator effects are temporary and wear off gradually. How long that takes differs from person to person, which is one of the things we review at your follow-up.

Cosmetic neuromodulator treatment is generally not a covered benefit. Although we are not in network with any dental plans, we will submit claims to your insurance electronically so you can maximize your out-of-network benefits where a claim applies.
